Hello, I'm Genevieve.
Alongside being an artist and photographer, I'm a mother of two wild little boys, a wife, and a yogi. I've lived almost my whole life in Colorado, and can't image a better place to live and raise my boys. I've been an art lover for as long as I can remember, which is what led me into becoming an art teacher. Helping students find their voice and their way of making art is one of my biggest joys. Recently I have constructed an art studio in my home. I have found that this has reinvigorated my own artistic practice, and helped me to look into my purpose as an artist. |

Growing up, even though I had a passion for art, I never really felt like I was a good artist. In fact, the first time I felt successful in my artistic creations was my photography class in high school. Being in the dark room, watching my photo develop before my eyes into the idea that had been in my mind, was the most satisfaction I had ever felt. When I attended Colorado State University I majored in Art Education with a concentration in Photography. As I worked through my program, I became more confident in my drawing and painting skills. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to study abroad at the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence, France. It was then that I finally had teachers that taught me my way of painting, a concept that I have brought back into my classroom. Since then I have focused my art making into painting and drawing.
As a new mother, the purpose behind my work has vastly shifted from my early art education. I find that the work that has captured my attention most as of late has been the human form and spirit. I have been working mostly on pushing my ability to do more realism work, getting finer details in my pieces to truly capture lifelike moments. I am passionate about the idea of capturing memories or events and translating them into works that speak to feelings as well as visuals.

I’ve been using my work to process and heal through traumas and events in my life. In January I learned of the loss of a life, which had a large impact on me. This event has strengthened my drive to help people see that there will always be a way out, a way to a better time. My piece “You Hold the Universe in Your Heart” was my way to work through my grief and share this message with others.
My creations and media use is quite varied. Large graphite portraits, and oil paintings are some of my favorites. I also enjoy working with fibers doing needle felt pieces and integrating embroidery into those works. I am constantly continuing my artistic education so that I can bring back new tools and ideas from my studio to my classroom. I have also found that learning about and exploring new techniques and mediums fuels my work.
